Field of Mission The mission of the Vinculum members can be described in terms of concentric circles. Firstly, the conversion of the world starts with one's own commitment to personal conversion and to conformity to Christ. For the single person, living in grace and sharing God's life with those around them is definitely a challenge in today's secularized world. Yet Our Lord is depending on each of us. The example of Christ who gave up his life for His Spouse, the Church, is the ideal for spousal relations and part of the foundation block of holiness for married members. Married members must also focus on transmitting the Faith to their children along with the entire human and Catholic culture it entails. Finally, Vinculum members bring Christ to the workplace and to society at large, which is an indispensable apostolate for the laity of our times. Miles Jesu Vinculum Members The purpose of Miles Jesu is to evangelize the world, making Jesus Christ the Center of all human life. The first and absolutely necessary means by which this purpose is fulfilled is the sanctification of its members. The Vinculum are the Miles Jesu members, married or single, who aspire for holiness in the ordinary circumstances of family life. There are also Diocesan priest Vinculum members. (NB The celibate members of Miles Jesu are called Domus members). Vinculum, (Latin for bond) describes the unity in purpose, in spirit, in charity, in prayer and in action that all the members of Miles Jesu have in the pursuit of holiness and the evangelization of the world. In joining Miles Jesu, Vinculum members seek holiness by being faithful to their particular state of life, by being formed in Miles Jesu's spirituality and by sharing in its mission. For this reason a Vinculum member cannot also be a member of another institute of perfection (for example, a member of a Third Order). Degrees of Membership There are various degrees of Vinculum membership, which are established according to an increased commitment to prayer, study and action. This gives ample scope for a variety of persons to join the Institute and to grow gradually from one degree to another. The purpose of this kind of structure is to allow different persons at different levels of commitment to be admitted, assuring that the original spirit of the Institute remains strong, preserved and deepened. The degrees of membership are not a measure of sanctity, but of the practical commitment to Miles Jesu. Each member in whatever degree is called to be a saint. Each member of Miles Jesu participates in the total and entire mission particular to Miles Jesu according to his or her state in life and degree of membership. |
